宮崎国際大学（MIC)は、国際社会の一員として必要なスキルを、思いやりあふれる協力的な環境で身につけることができる、全国的に見てもとてもユニークな大学です。
MICはとても小さな大学ですが、みんなMICが大好きです。なぜなら、ここでは教職員と学生がみんなお互いのことを仲間として知り合うことができるからです。
教育とは、まさに人格の形成であると思います。
MICでは、みんなが知り合いで、授業も少人数で、そして学生同士で毎日、密に交流しています。私たちは共同体です。しかしそれは「学び続ける」共同体です。しかも、教育の成果が最も上がるためにはどのような方法をとればよいのか、その明確なヴィジョンの上に立つ共同体なのです。
なによりもまず、MICはリベラル・アーツ大学です。つまりそれは、人類学、歴史学、文学、心理学などの幅広い学問を学ぶということです。幅広く学ぶ目的とは、「幅広い」教養を身につけるということです。
MICでは、少人数クラスで、「クリティカル・シンキング」に集中した授業を行います。クリティカル・シンキングとは、どのように考えるか、どのように問題を見つけ質問するか、その問題にどのように答えを導き出すかを知ることです。このことにより、学生は「深い」教養を身につけます。
このように「幅広く」「深く」学ぶことで、学生は一人の人間として、また世界市民として、十分な思考力を身につけ、社会に貢献することができるでしょう。
最後に、MICの全ての授業は英語で行われ、そのほとんどは、英語のネイティブスピーカーの教授陣により行われます。もちろん、日本語の教育も忘れていませんが、MICは「英語」を使うことに特化しています。英語は国際社会でコミュニケーションを取るための「世界共通語」です。つまり、英語を使えることは、世界の人々と会話することができるということになります。学生は、学んだ知識や教養、考える力を、日本語と英語の２ヶ国語で扱うことができるようになります。
MICはとてもエキサイティングな場所です。私はMICの一員であることに誇りを持っています。きっと皆さんもそう思うことでしょう。
MIC is a very special, in fact a unique, place. At MIC you can learn the skills that you will need to become a global citizen and you will do it in an environment that is both caring and very supportive.
MIC is a small place and we like it that way! Why? Because it means that we all get to know each other very well as people.
Education is about the whole person.
At MIC we all know each other, classes are small, and teachers and students really interact with each other every day. We are a community. But we are a learning community. Our learning community is based on a clear vision of how education works best.
First of all we are a Liberal Arts College. That means that you study and take courses in a range of subjects such as Anthropology, History, Linguistics, Psychology and so on. The purpose of this is to give you a range of knowledge.
At MIC we have small classes which concentrate on the skills of “critical thinking”, knowing how to think, how to ask questions and how to figure our answers to them. The purpose of this is to give you depth of knowledge.
The combination of range and depth will make you an independent thinker capable of finding your place in the world and contributing to it.
Finally, all of these classes are in English and usually with a native English speaker as the teacher. While the study of Japanese is not neglected, our focus is on English. English is the major language of global communication. With it you can talk to and listen to the world. You can put the things you have learned and the thinking skills that you have practiced into action in two languages!
